Watch the new BMW M4 Competition Drag Race The Audi RS6 Avant
When talking about wagons over coupes, the uninitiated would likely favor the swoopy body style when asked which one would win a drag race.
But we all know that’s not true, especially if we’re talking about the Audi RS6 Avant. The German long-roof performance vehicle is a quick and swift monster and compared to the BMW M4 Competition the question is: can the Bimmer Coupe keep up with the pace?
Archie Hamilton Racing on YouTube orchestrated a drag race between the two to settle the score.
No matter how much you hate the mammoth lungs of the BMW M4, you know that it has a lot to offer in terms of performance. It is, after all, a full-fledged M-model from Munich.
At the heart of the M4 Competition is the 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six engine that develops 503 horsepower (375 kilowatts) and 479 pound-feet (650 Newton-meters) of torque. Unlike the BMW M4 Competition xDrive model released last April, the competitor in the video above is the RWD version, which could be a drawback compared to the RS6 Avant with Quattro system.
Speaking of which, the Audi RS6 Avant, although it is heavier due to its all-wheel drive system, has a huge power gap to go with its advantage across the board. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 can produce up to 591 horsepower (441 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of twist, numbers the M4 Competition cannot ignore, especially in a straight-line race.
However, is this still true in a real context? We all know that the gear also plays an important role, among others. More importantly, is the result the same in races with a gradual start and a standing start? The video at the top of this page should settle the score.
