Tuned Audi RS3 Tries Its Luck Against Tesla Model S Plaid In Drag Race

There is very little (if only) vehicles in the world that can compete with the Tesla Model S Plaid in a drag race. That’s true if you’re talking about factory cars, and it’s a well-known fact that there’s not much you can do to an electric vehicle in terms of extra performance. This is not the case with combustion cars, as they can be modified to provide more power. But is that enough to beat EV performance?
A tuned Audi RS3 Sedan gives it its all in a new video, showing us the fast compact run of a Tesla Model S Plaid. The video is courtesy of Sam Car Legion channel on Youtube and shows us the two cars go head-to-head in a series of races. And just to make that clear from the start – yes, the Tesla has the yoke.
Let’s look at the numbers first. The RS3 features a tuned 2.5-liter inline-five engine that develops 753 horsepower (554 kilowatts), routed to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system. . The weight of the car is 3,472 pounds (1,574 kilograms).
Against this, the Model S Plaid uses its three-motor electric powertrain, generating a combined 1,020 hp (750 kW) reaching all four wheels. It’s obviously much more powerful, but it’s also heavier at 4,816 pounds (2,184 kg). Interestingly, the power-to-weight ratio is almost identical – 0.217 hp/lb for the tuned RS3 and 0.212 hp/lb for the original Tesla.

Does this modded RS3 stand a chance against the powerful and fast Model S Plaid? I think we all know the answer here, but it’s still not a useless drag race. Two fast cars, two different philosophies, one winner. Check it out.
