Cup Series team owner Justin Marks tweeted on Friday that his plan to put one of the Skoal Bandit race cars made famous by driver Harry Gant in Darlington Raceway’s pre-race show on Sunday has been scuttled due to tobacco advertising restrictions.
Marks had planned to put the car, which Gant claimed four consecutive Cup victories in September 1991, on the Darlington track for ceremonial laps ahead of Sunday’s Goodyear 400. The car was on display at the Trackhouse Racing store, but team members had prepared for it to be driven on the track on Sunday.

Over the past few days, Marks has tweeted several posts regarding the plans for the car and the work being done to get it ready.
“It’s important for the Trackhouse team to be good stewards of NASCAR history – to that end, we bought this car from Andy Petree. It’s actually THE car Harry Gant won every race with. races in September 1991. And I’m going to do some pre-race laps there on Sunday at @TooToughToTame,” he originally tweeted.
He followed his previous discussions after sharing the news that the car would not take to the track on Sunday; “I looked at a lot of options here, at the end of the game to change the livery, you have to respect those that would allow that to happen. I will say this: at some point this year, I will give you all something awesome to watch with this car.
