“ This is my house ”: fire destroys the house of an NC woman on land where she lived for 71 years
WANCHESE, North Carolina. (WAVY) – A Wanchese woman’s home she has lived in for 43 years burned down to the ground last month. Now the community is rallying behind her to help her.
The house has seen the birth of her children, countless holiday celebrations, and little knickknacks collected over the years.
It is home to so many treasured memorabilia and collectibles for Lana Daniels Beacham. The plot of land where it once stood is home to many more.
She has spent her entire life in Wanchese and in an instant in April her whole life changed before her eyes.
âThis is my den. This is where I sat. I was just sitting there when the fire started, âsaid Daniels Beacham. âI was sitting on my couch and heard a crackle. When I got ready to go out, my curtain was on fire.
She watched her house on Mill Landing Road burst into flames.
âOh, I loved it,â she says. âI didn’t have much but what I had⦠everyone who’s been there said it was the most comfortable house. I saved everything. I was not an accumulator but I saved⦠I had pictures of my family everywhere.
âI had a bunch of home videos and that’s what broke my heart,â she added. “I have lost all of my personal videos.”
These memories still have a place in her heart and in her mind. There are things a fire simply cannot destroy, like the indelible connection to the land where his home once stood.
âI have lived on this same land for 71 years,â she says. âI was born right there in the house across from me.
Now people near and far are mobilizing to help.
âI really have a lot of people who love me,â she says.
His son’s colleagues in Raleigh created a GoFundMe to help raise money for her. People have already donated over $ 3,000. The goal is to raise approximately $ 5,000.
“I would like to get a double [trailer] or something, âshe said.
The decision to place her new home was easy – the lot belongs to Lana⦠And âLana’s lotâ will always be.
âEvery now and then I think I might just leave Wanchese. Maybe I’ll go somewhere else, âshe said. âI thought it would be terrible to have to leave here. It’s my house. “
