The Mcpherson College Motor Show expects a unique field of classic cars

McPHERSON – Priceless, one-of-a-kind classic automobiles will be on display at the 22nd Annual CARS Club Automobile Festival from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7 at McPherson College. Among the cars expected to take to the field this year are the 1938 Buick Y-Job concept car, the 1961 Mako Shark Corvette concept and the 1970 Pontiac Pegasus concept, all from the General Motors collection.
Each year, the student-run auto show attracts rare vehicles from around the country and expects 350 to 400 vehicles to be displayed on campus this year. Other special cars expected at this year’s event include a 1941 Chevrolet Fleetline from Rad Rides by Troy, a 1937 Cord 812 Sportsman, a 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Coupe, an Aston-Martin DB2 and a Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster from 1937.
“The auto show is the ultimate celebration of automotive work where future auto restorers and current masters of the industry meet,” said Wyatt Miceli, senior manager and student of this year’s auto show. “The show is entirely student-run and welcomes all brands in a variety of price ranges. Each year, students and professionals show off their skills and enjoy a great day surrounded by friends, family and the community.
The weekend will also celebrate the grand opening of the Paul Russell & Company Center for Automotive Research at Miller Library on the university campus. The inauguration will take place on Friday and the space will be open to visitors on Saturday.
In addition to a wide variety of classic automobiles, the event will also feature entertainment provided by the McPherson College Steel Drum Band and Jazz Band as well as the McPherson High School Jazz Band. The Model-T Build team will demonstrate at 2 p.m., just before the awards ceremony. Guided tours of the buildings at Templeton Hall, home of McPherson College’s Automotive Restoration Program, will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Spectators will not have to pay any fees. Food trucks will also be available on campus to purchase food and beverages.
