Body

Rick Butler, 64, died on November 24, 2021 at his home in Rapid City. Richard Alan Butler was born August 11, 1957 to Bob and Faye (Scarborough) Butler. He attended Eagle Butte High School in Eagle Butte where he graduated.

He married on June 5, 1982 to Lisa Marie LeGrand in Sioux Falls. The couple resided in Eagle Butte until 1984 when they moved to Rapid City.

Rick loved spending time with his family. He had a passion for drag racing, coached youth sports with his children and watched all the many sports for his grandchildren. His passion for drag racing began at a young age and grew throughout his family as his three children and five of his grandchildren raced down the Strip. His 1967 Plymouth Barracuda was his pride and joy. His love for motorsports didn’t stop at drag racing, having spent his over 35-year career selling used auto parts. For some, it is the stray animals that follow them home. Rick’s got lost cars, including a 1971 Plymouth Duster with no windows and two flat tires he bought for Lisa. This has evolved into Butler Family Racing, which now includes the Barracuda, Duster and 5 Jr. Dragsters. Running was his love.

Rick is survived by his wife Lisa; children Robert (Kristi) Butler and Matthew (Natalie) Butler of Sioux Falls, and Brandy (Casey) Case of Rapid City; eight grandchildren Caden Benke, Elias and Rhett Butler, Brooke and Chase Butler, Ryelee, Parker and Elizabeth Case; siblings Ronald (Alisa) Butler of Mize, MS, Rebecca Eichler of Rapid City and Roger (Brenda) Butler of Wilmot; and his stepfather and stepmother, Wayne and Nancy LeGrand of Rapid City.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Kirk’s Funeral Home.

Memorials can be sent to local youth sports and Sanford Children’s Hospital.
