PEP grants must be approved by the county committee
EDWARDSVILLE – Parks and recreation grants totaling more than $ 1.1 million were approved by the Madison County Council Grants Committee on Monday for projects ranging from new and improved trails and trails to loan repayment precedents of the park.
Funding comes from the county’s share of the parks and recreation tax. In 2000, voters in Madison and St. Clair counties approved a 1 / 10th percent sales tax to fund recreation projects and create the Metro East Park and Recreation District. Half of the money goes to the respective counties to be disbursed in the form of grants, the rest to MEPRD for its project, which also includes grants.
