Novelli’s brings back the mozzarella rabbit | The dish
STATEN ISLAND, NY – Missed that mozzarella bunny last year at Novelli’s Pork Store in Oakwood? The pandemic caused them to abandon for 2020 but it’s finally back in inventory with more delicious Easter foods.
So here we are for another sampling of The Dish. Watch it live weekly, streamed from the Staten Island Advance Facebook page / SILIVE.com each Wednesday. From next week, please log in at 11:30 am
For now, catch up with John Spadaro as he and the staff fill the display cases with fresh mozz fashioned into beggar’s handbags. At around one month of Easter, customers can also purchase seasonal items like sweet-dry sausage and homemade rustica pizza, aged four weeks. The latter is a savory meat and cheese pie wrapped in a delicious buttery crust.
As the broccoli rabe blanched on the stove, Karen Spadaro made treats like shrimp with orzo and chicken windmills. John took us for a walk to Novelli on this early morning midweek as customers ordered egg sandwiches served on fresh bagels from the store.
John and co-owner Joe Rivelli open the store every day at 8 a.m. The closing time on weekdays and Saturdays is at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
