Nitrous Corvette races 900 horsepower Mustang, bursts into flames mid-race
As such, street fights held at night can muster massive numbers of high powered cars. And, as the footage we have here shows, the mid-hour hostilities started at least a week before this year’s event.
The clip, which comes from the YouTube label Street car video, shows some of the hottest times racers have had once the sun goes down, and we mean that literally – as described in the title, one of the vehicles caught fire while driving another machine .
We are talking about a Chevrolet Corvette C5 that had been fitted with a nitrous configuration. The Golden Bowtie machine was fighting a 900-horsepower Ford Mustang S550 using a 3.0-liter Whipple blower at the time. And while the Chevy looked like it was on a furious takeoff, flames quickly emerged from under the hood.
It took some time for the driver to park and open the hood as the fire was already serious. Unfortunately, as is the case with many of these fast machines, there did not appear to be a fire extinguisher on board, leaving the flames a little time to consume the engine compartment. On top of that, a man, who was presumably the passenger, almost got into serious trouble while trying to put out the fire with a piece of clothing.
Fortunately, someone from another vehicle finally provided a fire extinguisher, and the flames were extinguished “before things got worse”.
Of course, the situation would have been different if the race had taken place in the safe environment provided by the dredging track, where emergency responders are equipped and trained for such situations.
Now, while said incident awaits you at the end of the clip (9:56 timestamp), the video offers many more speed battles recorded before and during TX2K21. It also includes additional incidents such as stopping a Mustang in the middle of a race.
