NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals return to Bristol Dragway | Sports
Thunder returns to Thunder Valley.
NHRA and Bristol Dragway officials announced on Wednesday that the Thunder Valley NHRA Nationals will return to the iconic track after a one-year hiatus from October 15-17.
It will be a critical race for the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Championship countdown qualifiers.
“We look forward to hearing the roar of nitro engines rumble once again at the historic Bristol Dragway as we welcome fans to an NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series event and celebrate our 20th anniversary of NHRA racing in Thunder Valley, ”said Jerry Caldwell, executive vice president and general manager of Bristol Dragway. “We anticipate a lot of top class championship drama to take place during the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals as one of the last three races on the 2021 calendar.”
The Nitro Top Fuel and Funny Car categories are the headliners of the action. Pro Stock returns to Bristol after an absence in 2019, when it will be the first points race for Pro Stock Motorcycle competitors in Bristol. Pro Mod, Mountain Motor Pro Stock and several Sportsman classes will also compete.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, the race was postponed and ultimately canceled in 2020. It was the first year since 1999 that Bristol Dragway has not hosted a major NHRA event.
Mike Salinas (Top Fuel) and Bob Tasca III (Funny Car) won races in the Nitro categories at the 2019 Thunder Valley Nationals.
