Mike Phelan gives Manchester United rallying cry ahead of Europa League final
Manchester United assistant coach Mike Phelan has issued a rallying cry for the squad ahead of the Europa League final against Villarreal later this month.
United have two Premier League games to play this season, against Fulham and Wolves, and have already secured a top-four spot.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have a big challenge ahead of the end of the campaign as they are set to travel to Gdansk for the Europa League final.
United are firm favorites for the clash against Unai Emery’s side, but can’t take anything for granted in such a big occasion.
Phelan has the experience of European glory with United himself and has used the 30th anniversary of the club’s Cup Winners’ Cup victory as a rallying cry for the team.
“30 years ago today and now I sit here with another Manchester United team with the opportunity to take European silverware and start their own legacy,” he posted on Twitter.
“Manchester United is the time to focus and end the season with a big job to do.”
While United already have a Champions League berth next season, the win could provide a huge boost to the group stage draw as the Europa League winners will be ranked.
This would see Solskjaer’s side avoiding the likes of Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, as well as eventual La Liga and Ligue 1 winners.
United’s Europa League final is scheduled for Wednesday, May 26, and the kick-off will be at 8:00 p.m.
