Midlanders honor family history at statewide auto show
Vert and Elizabeth Blanchard’s Chevrolet Caprice Classic Brougham rolled off the assembly line in 1989 and was the last new car they purchased. Thirty-two years later, their son and daughter-in-law Charlie and Connie Blanchard of Midland took the car to Michigan as part of the Back to the Bricks Promo Tour, a series of classic car shows, from June 4 to 9.
Green worked for Chevrolet for 33 years, retiring in 1966. He bought the Caprice in 1989 for about $ 18,000 so Elizabeth could get around. He handed the car over to Charlie in 2009, who kept it in his barn in Sanford. Charlie has taken the car out a few times to go to local auto shows and cruises; today the car’s mileage is just over 40,700.
