Lotus Evija electric hypercar: everything you need to know

To the world, the Lotus Evija is not only known as the the brand’s first electric hypercar but also as the most powerful production car ever built. While many competitors are loaded with hybrid powertrains, the Evija pushes the boundaries of modern hypercar technology as a fully electric model and comes with a super-fast charging setup.

The car made its dynamic debut at the Goodwood SpeedWeek event last year and like other hypercars around the world, production of this electric sensation is also limited, which is only 130 units forever. Well, the good thing is that it is now open for orders in the local market. So in today’s guide we bring all the details about the 2021 Lotus Evija you have to know.

The exterior design of the Evija is inspired by aeronautics and nature. It is said to be the first road car to have laser lights for low beam and low beam. It gets crisp design lines and muscular hips all around and there’s a curved hood that looks like the past. Lotus racing cars. Entering the exciting cabin, the Evija here receives Alcantara upholstered seats with 3-point seat belts and a number of carbon fiber surfaces here and there. There is an exclusive steering wheel, the design of which is inspired by LMP and Formula 1. It wears a unique shape with several integrated controls and two driving modes.

The instrument cluster has a single digital display showing all important information for the rider including riding mode, battery status, remaining charge, etc. The list of high-tech goodies also includes air conditioning, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, live software updates, and a chronograph to record lap times. Evija owners can also connect their cars to a smartphone app that allows them to monitor battery status and range, and access air conditioning remotely.

Performance and handling Lotus Evija

Now let’s move on to the most important component of the hypercar, which is the powertrain setup. It has a total of four electric motors and, according to the automaker, together they generate a maximum power of 2000 PS with a peak torque of 1700 Nm. With this, the hypercar can sprint from 0 to 100 km. / h in less than three seconds, from 0 to 200 km / h in less than six seconds, while 0 to 300 km / h is possible in no more than nine seconds. The maximum speed of the hypercar is rated at 320 km / h.

On the front of the suspension, the Evija has a motorsport-derived setup that offers exceptional handling. It includes three adaptive spool shocks on both axles for extreme track performance as well as road safety. The car rides on 20- and 21-inch magnesium front and rear wheels, wrapped in Pirelli Trofeo R tires. Its advanced braking setup features carbon-ceramic discs at both ends.

The Evija is equipped with advanced technology that aims to make charging the battery as fast as recharging at the gas station. With this technology, the electric hypercar only takes 12 minutes for an 80% charge, while for a full charge the customer has to wait just 18 minutes. Isn’t that astonishing? As far as range is concerned, the Lotus Evija can travel over 400 km on a single charge.
