Hyundai Creta vs Mahindra Scorpio in a drag race [Video]
Hyundai Creta is currently one of the most popular mid-size SUVs on the market. The all new generation of SUVs arrived in India last year and quickly became popular among buyers. People love the Hyundai Creta for its distinct styling and packed interior. In 2002, Mahindra also launched a revolutionary product which has become very popular among SUV buyers in India. The model was Scorpio, and over the years Mahindra has made several minor and major modifications to the SUV to keep the look fresh. Here we have a video where Mahindra Scorpio and Hyundai Creta diesel are seen in a drag race.
The video was uploaded by Ashish Yadav on their YouTube channel. The video begins with a vlogger talking about the engine specifications of the two SUVs. The Mahindra Scorpio is powered by a 2.2-liter mHawk turbo diesel engine that generates 140 hp and 319 Nm of maximum torque. It is only available with a manual gearbox. The Hyundai Creta, on the other hand, is powered by a smaller 1.5-liter turbo diesel engine that generates 113 hp and 250 Nm of maximum torque.
On paper, Mahindra Scorpio was winning the race. The two drivers lined up their SUV on the road. They chose an empty stretch of road which was closed. After lining up the SUVs they start the race and suddenly we see the much more powerful Mahindra Scorpio in trouble. It didn’t get off to a good start and Hyundai Creta took advantage of the situation.
Hyundai Creta took the lead and maintained it throughout the race. Mahindra Scorpio was left behind and couldn’t close the gap. In the second lap, the two pilots change vehicles and start racing. In circles, Mahindra Scorpio struggles at the start and Hyundai immediately takes the lead. This time, Hyundai Creta was way ahead of Scorpio. It almost felt like the driver wasn’t able to accelerate properly at the start and the gear changes weren’t smooth in the Scorpio either.
Finally, the two SUVs line up for the last lap and in this lap the Mahindra Scorpio performed competitively. The Scorpio accelerates quite quickly and takes the lead. She held the lead for a while and it wasn’t until the end that Hyundai Creta took the lead. Hyundai Creta won all three races without any problem.
As mentioned above, on paper it looked like Mahindra Scorpio was going to be the big winner as he was much more powerful and generated more torque. It has a bigger engine of course, but it also happens to be the heaviest vehicle in this race. Mahindra Scorpio easily weighs over 1,800 kilograms while the Hyundai Creta diesel weighs just around 1,300 kilograms.
Weight plays a crucial role in any race and this is an example. Since the Hyundai Creta was lighter, it had a better power-to-weight ratio than Mahindra Scorpio. The extra weight on Mahindra Scorpio kept him from getting off to a good start from the start. Mahindra is currently working on the Next Generation Scorpion and it has been tested several times. It will be different from the current version and is expected to hit the market early next year.
