Funny Car Chaos: Great Drag Race Comes to Kearney Raceway Park | State and regional news
KEARNEY – More than 32 fun cars head to Kearney Raceway Park to compete for over $ 35,000 in prizes at the Funny Car Chaos Championship Series June 11-12.
High-powered, nitromethane-burning fun cars are the main attraction of the two-day event, which will feature more than 150 racing cars, some of which are powered by jet aircraft engines.
This will be Funny Car Chaos’ second year at Raceway Park. It was the biggest event of 2020 on the Kearney quarter-mile track, and it is set to be the biggest drag racing event this year, track director Joe Roach said.
“It’s going to be a big deal. There are over 30 fun cars to come, ”Roach said. “Funny cars are the fastest, loudest and craziest cars we bring to the track every year. “
Chris Graves, director of Funny Car Chaos, said drag racing gives participants an intimate and personal experience, especially at Kearney Raceway Park. The drag strip at 4860 Imperial Ave. was founded in 1964.
Graves said each ticket gives racing fans access to the pit area to meet the drivers, collect autographs, watch maintenance work between races and experience the power of racing machines.
The Funny Car Chaos Championship Series is a national motor racing program. Reaching over 200 mph in just an eighth of a mile, the fun cars will be the fastest racers fans will see at Raceway Park this year.
