Ford, Volkswagen, Lucid Air electric vehicle listings
Live from New York, Tesla’s competitors are trying to steal the show from Elon Musk.
Three automakers ran electric vehicle commercials in the first half hour of the episode “Saturday Night Live” hosted by Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
Lucid Motors, Ford and Volkswagen featured electric vehicles in commercials in an attempt to catch some of the spotlight on a night featuring the billionaire widely credited with leading an EV revolution.
Lucid, a startup that has yet to sell any vehicles, has announced the Lucid Air, an ultra-luxurious vehicle that will have a range of over 500 miles.

Ford showed the Mustang Mach-E, an electric crossover version of its famous pony car. And Volkswagen introduced the VW ID.4, its first electric SUV.
If Tesla announces anything, it would be a first. Musk has repeatedly refused to run Tesla ads, saying it wasn’t necessary because demand for Tesla products is still strong.
If Musk was aware of the EV commercials, he gave no indication during the first half of the show.
But he referred to at least one competitor.
“I could say something really shocking, as I drive a Prius,” Musk joked during his monologue in a reference to the Toyota hybrid sedan.
