Drag Race: Bugatti Chiron Sport vs. Dassault Rafale Navy Jet
A Bugatti Chiron Sport and the Dassault Rafale Marini clashed in north-western France at the Landivisiau naval base. Both vehicles were built in France using high technology, sharing technical advancements from automotive and aerospace engineering developments.
In 2007, a Bugatti Veyron took a Eurofighter Typhoon plane in a drag race. In this ongoing match, Bugatti Chiron Sport and Dassault Rafale Marine clashed to measure variables such as acceleration, torque and braking.
Albert Divo, Robert Benoist and Bartolomeo were racing car pilots who also piloted the French Air Force at the turn of the last century. A French aviator Roland Garros owned a Bugatti Type 18 to be as fast on the ground as in the air.
In addition, the racing car pilots benefited from the experience in the cockpit and were fascinated by Bugatti’s light, agile and fast automobiles in comparison to the airplane.
The Bugatti Chiron Sport ‘Les Légendes du Ciel’ was officially unveiled at the end of last year and is limited to just 20 units worldwide. The vehicle is a way for a French luxury brand to honor French aviation and former Bugatti pilots who have also flown airplanes.
It is finished in matte gray paint Snake Gray, blue skirts on the front and white and red tricolor. These are just a few of the features that pay homage to the aircraft. In addition, the front side skirts are in black visible carbon fiber, the grille bars are in laser-cut stamped aluminum and a brushed aluminum sill panel with “ Les Legendes du ciel ” inscriptions.
The Bugatti Chiron Sport features a leather interior in Gaucho color similar to the natural leather used in airplanes in the past. The natural material is contrasted with aluminum trim and inlays with the “Les Legendes du Ciel” logo which is also on the headrests. A sketch of the racing scene between the Nieuport 17 aircraft and the Bugatti Type 13 can be found on the door panels, the sketch depicts the two historic links of the limited edition hyper sports cars.
The vehicle is powered by an 8.0 liter W16 engine that generates a power of 1500 PS and 1600 Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h is achieved in 2.4 seconds, 200 km / h in 6 , 1 seconds, 300 km / h in 13.1 seconds and 400 km / h is reached in 32.6 seconds. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission was fitted to the Chiron Sport to transmit power to all four tires.
The jet has a dry weight of 10.3 tonnes and a maximum weight of 24.5 tonnes. The jet is 15.5 meters long, 10.86 meters wide and can reach a top speed of 1,975 km / h (1.6 Mach).
The Bugatti Chiron Sport and the Rafale Marine have a lot in common in terms of technology and materials, the brakes of the Rafale and Chiron Sport were both developed by Messier-Bugatti and both icons were built with lightweight materials.
The Chiron Sport is the first vehicle to be equipped with a fully hydraulically adaptive chassis similar to the landing gear of a jet aircraft. the only difference is that the landing gear of the jet is hydraulically removed while the Chiron Sport chassis adapts according to different driving programs.
