DULUTH, Ga. — In crystal-clear new surveillance video from Gwinnett County, hundreds of people gathered in the streets to watch street racers perform stunts in a busy intersection.
Channel 2 Gwinnett County Bureau Chief Tony Thomas was in Duluth, where an extensive camera network captured the stunt driving event earlier this year.

Police have released new video of hundreds of people gathered at the intersection of Buford Highway and Old Peachtree Road to watch as cars dragged by.
“There are a lot of street racers here. There are about a thousand people here,” the dispatch told police at one point. “There are like a thousand people here.”

The video shows the arrival of the police and the chaotic scene unfolds in real time. Police said five people were arrested at the event.
Duluth officer Ted Sadowski said he hopes the video will make people stop and think twice about holding auto events in his part of town.

“These drivers may not have realized what they were up against. The city of Duluth has 347 cameras spread throughout the area,” Sadowski said. “These, along with the tag readers, enabled officers to easily follow the path of the cars and identify some of the drivers.”
