Cobblestone Crafts listed after four decades for $ 679,000
HOLLAND TWP. – A long-standing craft staple in Holland has been put up for sale.
Cobblestone Crafts and Hobbies, 367 E. Lakewood Blvd. in the canton of Holland, is looking for a new owner. The business is listed at $ 679,000, including furniture, fixtures and equipment, but not including the building or current inventory.
According to owner Robert Harvey, 63, business has been booming since the pandemic; but it’s time to retire. He has worked in the store, to some extent, since 1975.
“I was 14,” he said. âThe store was located where Hops (at 84 East) is downtown. It was a huge building. They had apartments upstairs and they needed someone to clean the hallways. Then a day someone didn’t show up for work and they asked if i could work in the store i said i would give it a go.
Five years later, Harvey bought the business. About a decade later, the store moved from Eighth Street and moved to 210 College Ave. It wasn’t until 2010 that Harvey decided it was time to move out of downtown.

âThey kept raising the rent and we just knew we had to either close or move out,â he said. âIt was the end of the recession, and the banks were looking to lend money. We ended up buying this building – and it’s just the best location. I miss downtown in some ways, but it is 50 times more practical. “
Harvey has seen other craft stores come and go over the years, but Cobblestone has stuck, specializing in RC cars, airplanes and boats. The store also offers games, collectible cards and plastic models.
âThere aren’t that many DIY stores now,â Harvey said. “They either got bigger or disappeared. But the pandemic has been fantastic for our business – the plastic and wood models have bounced back. People have started to revert to basic stuff from the good old days.”
Harvey is willing to stay part-time for a while to help new owners acclimatize – and he’s open to discussing buying the building with the company.
The 7,000 square foot building includes the main storefront, a repair shop, a game room and an area with a large track for radio controlled cars. To learn more, visit tinyurl.com/vjvc7jew.
