This 1929 Studebaker belongs to Harold Wingerson of Fort Dodge. He took it to the Fort Dodge Ford Toyota – Ja Mar Cruise Friday night at the Fifth Avenue South dealership.
Local children can take an imaginative trip to the Black Hills and their parents can experience classic vehicles at a Friday night event at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
The Rushin’ to Mount Rushmore car/truck/motorcycle show and fundraiser for the whole family will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the church, 1436 21st Ave. NOT.
“It’s a great fun family activity,” said Annie Owens, an event organizer. “It’s just a fun time to get outside and see cars, trucks and motorcycles.”
Donations will be accepted, and all proceeds will go to Lutheran Family Services of Iowa. This organization offers various consulting services.
Previous car shows held by the church have attracted approximately 35 vehicles. Owens said people attending the show will be able to vote for their favorite car, truck and motorcycle.
The Children’s Carnival will highlight various tourist attractions in the Black Hills. A different activity will be offered at each attraction. The attractions presented will be:
• Corn Palace, Mitchell, South Dakota. Bags of popcorn will be distributed here.
• Crazy Horse monument under construction in South Dakota. Children can participate in horse racing on stick horses here.
• Are we already there? What every parent dreads to hear on a road trip. This attraction will offer information about St. Paul’s Lutheran School and Good Shepherd Preschool, as well as a foam party for children.
• Spearfish Canyon, South Dakota. A tank dunk will be at this attraction. “Our goal is to make our pastor very cold and wet,” said Owens.
• Black Hills, South Dakota. In this attraction, children will look for gold nuggets, which will actually be painted stones.
• Badlands, South Dakota. Here, children will search for gems and fossils just like geologists do.
• Mount Rushmore. Face painting.
There will be a silent auction of baskets of merchandise donated by local businesses.
Hot dogs, fries, water and lemonade will be served. Root beer floats will be available for $1.
