Camrie Caruso prepares for official NHRA Pro Stock debut at Winternationals
NHRA Pro Stock rookie Camrie Caruso will make his NHRA Camping World Drag Racing series debut at the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals presented by ProtectTheHarvest.com driving the Chevrolet Camaro Powerbuilt Tools.
Prior to this event, the young rider, who lives in Denver, North Carolina, participated in several pre-season testing sessions, most recently the PRO Nitro Spring Training event at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park outside from Phoenix last weekend. Caruso is a third-generation NHRA competitor who began her career driving a Jr. Dragster and won in Top Alcohol Dragster.
Q: You are a few days away from your debut in Professional Pro Stock. On a scale of 1 to 10, how excited are you?
Carus: I’m super excited; I’d say it’s definitely a 10!
Q: You had a few test sessions in January; how was this experience?
Carus: Being able to test for a few weeks before heading out west and testing in Phoenix has been so awesome. I was really lucky to be 100% comfortable in the car, and the team was able to get into a routine with each other.
Q: In Phoenix, you made side-by-side passes against some of your new competitors. How was it?
Carus: It was good to get used to racing alongside other Pro Stock competitors before the Winternationals. You don’t want this completely new experience on your first run.
Q: You hired Jim Yates as a team leader; So how is it going ?
Carus: Jim is awesome. He drove, settled, won and lost. He has all the experience that I don’t yet have in Pro Stock, which makes our team that much stronger.
Q: How have you found the balance between preparing for the season and your responsibilities at Titan Racing Engines?
Carus: It’s been very busy, but I’m grateful to be able to work with Titan Racing Engines during this time in my racing career as it’s all tied together.
Q: What do you expect most from the Winternationals?
Carus: I can’t wait to prove all the haters wrong when they said we weren’t going to Pomona. I’m thrilled to be entering a class that has so many amazing competitors; no matter who I line up against in the first round, it will be such a great memory for me.
Q: You are part of a family team, how much information, encouragement or advice do you receive from your father and/or your grandfather?
Carus: My dad and dad are the absolute best. Included in this support system, my mother was also a great support for all of this. My dad and dad just want me to do my best, and they’re there whenever I need encouragement.
Q: What are two or three of your goals, big or small, for this season?
Carus: I have big goals. The first goal is to win five races, my second goal is to finish in the top three in points, and my third goal is to get at least a No. 1 qualifier.
