Blacked out third-gen Camaro is a nasty, clean racing machine

The IROC Z Camaro is one of the manufacturer’s most iconic models. Thanks to the Hoonigan AutoFocus YouTube channel, Larry Chen took an in-depth look at Jessie’s Performance’s cleanest and nastiest third-gen black Camaro, complete with a full drag setup at Holley LS Fest in Los Angeles.
“It started out as a nice third gen IROC car, it was black before, but it was like I wanted to build a race car, and I was like, okay, let’s do it,” Jessie of Jessie’s explained. Performance. how the construction was born.
This is not the first time Jessie has worked on such a setup. He previously owned a third-generation Camaro race car and was already acquitted of the platform when this customer approached him.
Third Generation Camaro Construction
Larry Chen first saw the Camaro in the staging lanes of Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
“When this Camaro got close to the lines it did the biggest burnout to the point that the actual track was smoking for a long time because it lay down like a strip, two rubber bands and the rubber was still smoking,” Larry revealed.
Jessie’s customer wanted a restored version of the Camaro, but like a race car, not a streetcar. Jessie and her team had to completely restore the exterior to look like a factory IROC with a few wheels on it. However, an essential part of the construction was under the hood.
The Camaro has been restored with all factory body panels, with no modifications other than the front fenders. Construction began with a full strip to straighten the car.
Drag Camaro produces 1000 hp in a conservative manner
For suspension, the Camaro comes with nine-inch 35 Spline axles, all aftermarket lower suspension arms, wheel wood brakes, qa1 front and rear spools with top camber plates. They also cut the front end and redone it with a tubular front end.
Under the hood, this third-gen Camaro packs a forged n53 bottom, with a custom turbo kit running 6762 Mirror Image VS Turbos. It runs on e85 and makes a whopping 1000bhp in a careful manner. At full power, it could produce up to 1,250 hp.
The transmission is a reverse 400 turbo with a 3600 stall converter. It also comes with a trans brake that can handle 1500-2000 hp.
“When you see that thing on candles rusting in someone’s driveway it might look like shit but they polish really really well you know it’s a nice car you can’t help yourself to take that twice. car, ”Jessie confessed.
This Camaro build took Jessie’s performance well over 400 man hours.
