AUTO RACE: NASCAR at Kansas, Max wins, Indy 500 looms

Location: Kansas City, Kansas.

Schedule: Saturday, practice, 5 p.m. and qualifications, 5:35 p.m.; Sunday, race, 3 p.m. (FS1).

Race distance: 267 laps, 400 miles.

Last year: Kyle Busch won after starting ninth.

Last race: Joey Logano used a bump and run to oust leader William Byron on the penultimate lap and won at Darlington, ending a 40-race winless streak.

In short: Logano became the 10th different winner in 12 races. He also extended his streak of years with at least one victory to 11 years. … Byron and Ross Chastain are the only two-time winners. … Chase Elliott now leads Byron and Ryan Blaney by 65 points. Logano is fourth, at 79 points, with Chastain, Busch and Martin Truex Jr. all at 89 points. … The race will be followed by the Pointless Race of the Stars in Texas, a virtual week-long break from the championship battle midway through the regular season for the first series.
