TRANSFER TRACKING STATUS: To lend

Atlanta united have acquired Andrew Gutman of Celtic and lent the rear to New York Red Bulls in exchange for a third-round selection at the 2024 SuperDraft, the clubs announced on Tuesday. Atlanta could receive up to $ 50,000 in general allowance money if certain performance-based incentives are met.

Gutman was loaned out by FC Cincinnati from the summer of 2019 to the 2020 season. At the end of the loan, he returned to Celtic and his MLS rights were selected No.1 overall in the draft by Atlanta United, who has acquired first place in Cincinnati for $ 75,000 GAM.

“We are delighted that Andrew is joining us,” Kevin Thelwell, RBNY athletic manager, said in a club statement. “He has proven that he can play in MLS and that he has qualities which we think will fit well into our style of play. He is a solid defender, who can contribute in large areas to the future and has the physical attributes to meet the demands of our system.

The 24-year-old left-back has made 29 appearances (20 starts) with Cincy in a season and a half. He was a product of the Chicago Fire FC academy before eventually signing with Celtic. He has never made a first-team appearance with the Scottish giants.

“Andrew brings a good experience to MLS,” said head coach Gerhard Struber. “He’s strong with the ball and has a clear conscience and good intelligence going forward, which will help us build our offense and make good decisions in the final third.”

Before turning pro, Gutman shined for four years at Indiana University, with 20 goals and 17 assists in 90 appearances. He helped the team compete in the College Cup back-to-back in 2017 and 2018 and won the 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy, awarded to the country’s best college football player.

Gutman joins the RBNY squad which includes Jason Pendant and John Tolkin as left-back options.
