Watch a new model BMW going up against a Porsche 997 Turbo S will always make for an exciting drag race, especially since the BMW is an M5 model. Porsche 911 997s are popular for high speeds and competition wins. However, that was ten years ago. Now on the carwow youtube channel, viewers can watch this modern BMW M5 take on a Porsche 997 Turbo S.

The BMW M5 CS against the Porsche 997 Turbo S

The Turbo S features a 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine, which delivers equal power to all four wheels. The Porsche drives on all four wheels with its seven-speed automatic transmission and together with its engine, it can deliver an incredible 530 horsepower.

Under the hood of the BMW M5 is a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, which can produce 635 horsepower. Similar to the Porsche, the BMW also rolls on all four wheels. But, it uses an eight-speed automatic transmission, which can give it a bit more punch on a drag strip.

A huge drawback of the BMW is its weight, which is a total of 4,023 pounds. Even though that weight might seem heavy compared to the Porsche, which weighs 3,494 pounds, it’s still lighter than the base M5 model.

Plus, anyone who wants to buy one of these cars will be in for a surprise when they realize that the BMW costs almost twice as much as the Porsche. The Porsche will cost around $100,000 in today’s market. Meanwhile, the BMW M5 costs $175,000 or more.

On paper, both cars are pretty quick. Yet the real test is putting them one-on-one on the drag strip.

The two cars started from the start line and for most of the first race they were neck and neck. In the final moments, the BMW M5 took the lead and finished the quarter-mile race in 11.1 seconds. Meanwhile, the Porsche won a time of 11.2 seconds. It was a really tight first race.

The second and third races see the cars race to the finish line by half a mile, and the BMW takes both wins easily. The final race is a competition to see which car can hit 160 mph and brake at the best time. Once again, the BMW reigns in the top spot in the title.

All in all, it’s safe to say that the BMW M5 is the winner of this epic drag race. It may be ten years younger than the Porsche or it may have a considerably larger engine.
