2021 Yamaha Ray ZR debuts with Bluetooth and Hybrid Assist
Yamaha has recently been in the spotlight with the introduction of a new FZ-X bike with new retro styling. Not only that, Japanese bicycle makers have also updated their line of scooters consisting of Fascino 125 Fi and Ray ZR. We’ve talked about Fascino before, but the RayZR update is in line with its siblings.
Like the Fascino 125 Fi, the Ray ZR will now offer an optional Bluetooth connection. This allows riders to connect the scooter instrument console to their smartphone through the Yamaha Motorcycle Connect X app. It provides access to a lot of information on the scooter display, such as calls and SMS alerts.
Conversely, drivers can remotely access vehicle information such as ‘find their car’, ‘trip history’, ‘parking records’ and ‘danger’ from their mobile phones. On top of that, the updated RayZR also has LED headlights mounted on the updated apron. The scooter has a large set of DRLs and a colorful windshield on the front of older models.
New hybrid technology
The most significant addition to the equipment, however, is a powertrain hybrid assistance system. RayZR performs the same function as Fascino. This hybrid setup includes a new Smart Motor Generator (SMG) system that acts like an electric motor and provides electric assistance when accelerating from a standstill.
Therefore, it reduces the anxiety caused by the start and climb oscillations. The electric assist system will be canceled 3 seconds after starting, when the throttle is turned off, or when the engine speed exceeds the specified level. The output remains the same while the mileage / mileage is increased up to 16%.
In terms of design, the RayZR is very similar to its predecessor, except for subtle styling tweaks including a new color option and a pair of handlebar finger guards. It will continue to be available in two variations, the standard version and the street rally version, the latter with updated graphics and decals.
New paint schemes include standard Cocktail Reddish Yellow, Race Blue, Cyan Blue, Matte Red Metallic, and Black Metallic Cocktail variants. Premium street rally trims are available in matte green and matte orange options.
The specs are the same as the updated Fascino FI. It is equipped with an air-cooled 125cc single cylinder engine and delivers a power of 8.2 hp and a maximum torque of 10.3 Nm. The hardware configuration also includes a suspension configuration with a telescopic fork in the front and a single shock absorber at the rear. On the other hand, braking is performed with the front disc brakes and rear drum brakes fitted with CBS as standard equipment.
