2011 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Is Entering Drag Racing, Can Old Dogs Learn New Tricks?
Case at hand, discover this red example filmed during Hod Rod Drag Week 2021, challenging two Camaros, including a ZL1 and an SS, and two Mustangs, the Fox Body and the S550 GT. So how did it go ? Pretty good actually, as at the end of the tracks it was timed a hair’s breadth above the 10 second mark, with exit speeds ranging from 127+ to 133+ mph (204-215 km / h) .
With the 5.8-liter V8 under the hood, which generates 650 hp and 600 lb-ft (813 Nm) of torque, the older Shelby GT500 accelerates from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km / h) in 4, 1 second. It’s about on par with the supercars of the previous generation. Top speed is limited to 250 km / h.
The rear-drive muscle car, with its six-speed manual gearbox, is therefore still capable of quick take-offs, even without any mods. Speaking of which, we don’t know if this red example had its engine tuned, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it did.
But more importantly, how did it fare against its ad hoc rivals on the drag strip, and how many of them did it beat the quarter mile? You’re about to find out, so now would be a good time to take a short break and watch the video.
